On their visits our judges have the pleasure of discovering hidden gems of gardens tucked away behind unassuming walls and fences. From small courtyards filled with colourful pots and climbers all the way up to large gardens with multiple different spaces, we are amazed by the creativity, passion, horticultural knowledge and hard work of so many local residents. 

Some of the features that have particularly impressed our judges in the past include:

• Environmental awareness (water conservation, composting, mulching, recycling, eco-friendly approach to managing pests and diseases)

• Planting and garden features to encourage and support wildlife

• Creative garden design and use of space

• Planting for different seasons of the year

• Homegrown fruit and vegetables
